couverture travail decent en agriculture

The concept of decent work, which features in the United Nations' eighth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), must take into account the specific features of the organisation of agricultural work, which is predominantly family-based in Africa, as in many other regions. Any change in the production model leads to changes in the division of labour and the volume of tasks. It must therefore be assessed in terms of its implications for the sharing of the wealth created, and respect for the rights and health of all workers.

Consequently, legislators wishing to guarantee the attractiveness of employment in the agricultural sector in order to absorb the workforce of millions of young people entering the labour market in Africa must both ensure that employment conditions are regulated and take account of the impact of the agricultural models and production methods they promote on the working conditions and remuneration of these workers.
