Build the partnerships between IAWA and SOBER

SOBER IAWA MEETING

Representatives of IAWA (International Association on Work in Agriculture) and SOBER (Brazilian Society of Rural Economics, Administration and Sociology) boards discussed the possibilities of collaboration and partnership between the two institutions, during a virtual meeting on May 6th.
The meeting had the presence of SOBER’s and IAWA’s current and upcoming presidents, who presented the institution’s history, mission and objectives, subjects of interest and activities, among other aspects.

Although more directly related to subjects such as work, employment and labor, the broad perspective from which work in agriculture is taken by IAWA highlights connections with different themes at SOBER.

Under recent efforts to enhance international partnerships, both institutions emphasized convergent points of interest and the possibilities of collaboration and partnership. Among the potential actions, the group mentioned :

  • the promotion of joint activities to share research interests and activities;
  • the participation in upcoming congresses, including the proposal of organized sessions and working groups;
  • joint communication and publicization of each other’s activities through social media, website or direct mailing;
  • and the potential formalization of partnership through a MoU.

The participants emphasized the importance of communication and sharing research to promote their partnership.

The Board of the International Association on Work in Agriculture (IAWA) and the coordinators of the RMT  ”work in agriculture ”(Mixed Technological Network) have expressed their intention to strengthen their collaboration and to make it official and visible in the years to come.

The links between the two bodies have a long history, with members of the IAWA office sitting on the technical committee of the RMT work in agriculture  and, conversely, RMT coordinators sitting on the IAWA office since its creation (2017). At the last International Symposium on Work in Agriculture (2021), the RMT work in agriculture took charge of a session on development and training tools on the subject of work, and moderated a round table bringing together French experts on the subject (professionals, ministry, private sector). The participation of the RMT work in agriculture in IAWA activities is part of its international strategy.

As part of recent efforts to strengthen their institutional partnerships and make them more visible (e.g. the IAWA with the Brazilian Rural Economy Society - SOBER), the IAWA and the RMT Travail en agriculture are highlighting converging points of interest and opportunities to extend and strengthen collaborations and partnership actions within the framework of the new RMT cycle ‘work in agriculture and the renewal of the agricultural workforce’ which has been submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture. The actions cover information and the coordination of responses to European and international calls for projects, participation in forthcoming seminars or conferences, including the proposal of jointly organised sessions, the organisation of thematic working groups, joint communication and publicity of the other partner's activities via social media, websites or direct mail.
